Flake epoxy floors
The hardest working floor in the house
Flake goes on in four passes. The slab gets a diamond grind and its cracks filled. A pigmented base coat is rolled out. Vinyl color chips are thrown into the wet base until every inch is covered. Once it cures, the loose chips are scraped off and the whole floor is sealed under a clear polyaspartic topcoat.
The result is a hard, lightly textured surface with color running all the way through it. It takes hot tires, hides the dust a working garage collects, and cleans with a mop instead of a scrub brush.

Why does a flake floor hide so much?
Because it is never one flat color. A blend of three or four chip colors breaks up the surface the way a speckled countertop does, so dust, tire marks and a dropped wrench do not read the way they do on a plain floor. The light texture also gives you grip. It is the practical pick for the floors our epoxy flooring contractor in San Jose installs in garages and workshops.
What is a full broadcast?
It means the chips go down until no base coat shows through, rather than a light sprinkle over a painted floor. A full broadcast is thicker, tougher and hides more. It is also what makes the floor scrape smooth: the excess chips come off in every direction and leave one even texture for the topcoat to lock in. It is the same standard we hold on every garage floor install.

Call (669) 208-1573Flake or metallic for my space?
Flake for a floor that works: garages, workshops, laundry rooms, patios. Metallic for a floor that shows: entries, studios, showrooms, a garage you keep spotless. Both get the same grind and the same polyaspartic topcoat, so the difference is looks and how much texture you want underfoot. Josh brings samples of both to the estimate, the same boards he brings to every garage floor install.
Does flake work on commercial floors?
Yes. Back of house, stockrooms, workshops and service bays get the same build with a heavier topcoat, and the color blend can match a brand or hide the traffic a shop floor takes. The work is scheduled around your hours so the doors stay open. See how we approach commercial floor installs.

Straight answers about your epoxy floor questions
How long does a flake floor take?
Most garages are one to two days: grind, repairs and base coat with the chips on day one, the scrape and topcoat after it cures. Josh gives you the schedule and when you can park on it before any work starts.
Do I need to empty my garage first?
Yes. The floor has to be completely clear so the grinder can reach wall to wall. Move what you can out to the driveway for the day, and Josh will talk through anything heavy or awkward at the estimate.
Can I pick the chip colors?
Yes. Chips come in blends from light grays and tans to blues, blacks and custom mixes. Josh brings sample boards so you choose off a real chip, not a screen.
Will the floor be slippery?
Flake has texture built into it, which gives you grip. If the floor sees water, or you just want more bite underfoot, we can add a non slip additive to the topcoat.
How do I look after a flake floor?
Sweep or dust mop it, and run a wet mop over it when it needs one. Wipe up oil and brake fluid rather than leaving them to sit. There is no waxing and no yearly resealing.
Which areas do you cover?
San Jose is home base, and we work across Santa Clara, Sunnyvale, Campbell, Los Gatos, Milpitas, Fremont and the wider Bay Area. Send the form and Josh will let you know when he can come out.
